We had a chance to chat with Martin Smith, the mastermind behind I Think You’re Grand, an organization that was created in the late summer of 2019 aimed at connecting artists with one another and their community. It is a group centered around promoting arts and the people who make it, in Brantford, Brant and Six Nations of the Grand River.
Working to promote local artists primarily through their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, they also conduct interviews, contests, photoshoots and content creation. As a member of Brant Performing Arts , they work hard to stay connected with as many local groups and organizations as possible. They are constantly communicating with musicians, theatre groups, the Brantford Symphony Orchestra and any other entity that involves themselves in the arts either directly or indirectly.
In Martin’s own words, “We endeavor to connect the various disciplines of art, be that theatre, painting, music, dance, writing and so many others. The art community can sometimes seem fractured and we hope that we can play a small part in bringing people together as artists – and then in turn take that to the greater populous.”
For Martin the work is very rewarding. When an artist sells a painting or someone attends a local performance, giving credit to I Think You’re Grand as the reason, there’s a great deal of ‘feel good’ in that result. “We have received tremendous feedback from many artists on how the publicity on I Think You’re Grand helped their event or efforts,” says Martin.
So how can you support your local arts? Follow or like I Think You’re Grand on their social channels and take the opportunities they share to support local art and artists in every discipline.
